SFGate: At the Kabuki: star, filmmaker cameos

All day long, people pass by an oversize white poster in the Kabuki lobby listing all screenings at the San Francisco International Film Festival. A red dot indicates that an entry has sold out. Look more carefully and you’ll see a gold star next to select films – a mark that a filmmaker or actor is here in person.
These live appearances tell a lot about the state of the festival. They make the experience special and are a reason to see a movie even if it will be in theaters soon.
