Paula Huidobro

Paula Huidobro was born in Mexico City in 1980.  She discovered her passion for  photography at the age of 13 at which point she  started taking art history, film history and photography lessons at different museums in  Mexico City.

In 2002 she decided to move to Los Angeles and  enroll on the MFA program at the American Film Institute where she focused on cinematography.  Her thesis film WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON screened around the world on festivals such as Deauville, Camerimage and the London Film Festival among others. WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON also won the  Gold Medal at the Student Academy Awards.

After graduating from  AFI  she continued shooting short films one of them being MOTHER, which won   3rd  place at Cinefondation  Competition in Cannes and also  the Jury Prize at the Seattle International  Film Festival and at the Florida Film Festival.

Paula has also  shot  commercials both in the US and  Mexico for brands such as McDonalds, Sprite, Kellog’s, and music videos directed by Nigel Dick, Marc Webb, Rich Lee and  Jacob Estes among others.  She also operates on commercials for the cinematographer Emmanuel Lubeski.

Recently she has focused on her feature work with the director Josh Evans on  JAKE LEAD AND GARDENS OF THE NIGHT directed by Damian Harris and starring Tom Arnold and John Malcovich among others.  GARDENS OF THE NIGHT premiered at the Official Selection in Competition at the Berlin Film Festival 2008  and was  the  winner of the International Critics Award at the Deauville Film Festival.  She  has also  just finished a short called TIRED OF BEING FUNNY directed by Rodrigo Garcia starring John Mahoney and Lili Taylor and is currently shooting MEETING SPENCER starring Jeffrey Tambor.
